Sweets Erupt for 17 Hits to Take Battle of Basin Series at Borleske

WALLA WALLA, Washington — The Walla Walla Sweets pounded out 17 hits Sunday to earn a 10-3 victory over the Yakima Valley Pippins and win the three-game series between the two sibling rivals.

Kennedy Hara led the way for the Sweets with a 4-for-6 effort that included RBI singles in the fourth and fifth innings. Ben Parker finished 3-for-5, and three other Sweets had two hits each.

Leading 2-1, the Sweets took command of the game with four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Timely hitting and well-placed hits kept the Sweets rounding the bases.

Spencer Shipman and Blake Balsz each finished 2-for-4 for the Pippins, who fell to 7-14 in West Coast League first-half play.

Heitaro Hayaski earned the win for Walla Walla, striking out five and walking one in six innings of work. He only allowed two hits.

The Pippins return to Yakima County Stadium on Tuesday, hosting Nanaimo in the first of three games. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
