Pippins to Stream all Home Games on Live Video

With the 2018 Pippins season about to get underway, fans will have the option to video stream all 32 Pippins home games for the first time.

A single-game pass can be purchased as well as a full-season, All-Access Pass. A single-game stream will cost $8.99, while the full season will cost $189. The video stream will combine with the simulcast audio from the Pippins’ English-radio broadcast on 1460 ESPN Yakima.

The Pippins will utilize Boxcast, a cloud-based video streaming service with a full production suite for a comfortable and enjoyable video streaming experience.

“We’re excited to take these first steps in video streaming this year. Boxcast is a great streaming company to work with, and we’ve had some amazing test results so far,” said Pippins general manager Jeff Garretson.

The video stream will also include pregame and postgame analysis on top of in-game coverage.

“I’m really happy about the team we’re putting together behind the camera. In addition to our broadcaster, Kevin Vallene, who has radio and video experience, we’re fortunate to have four enthusiastic and talented students from around the Yakima Valley who have taken video production classes at YV Tech. They will be able to put their knowledge to use and develop skills in live broadcasting that not only will benefit us, but will help them as well,” Garretson said.

The Pippins will start with a one camera setup this season with plans to expand to a multi-camera setup in 2019.

Adding a pay-per-view and season subscription options for all home games in Yakima is part of a larger, West Coast League initiative to have all games live-streamed for fans. Both the Pippins and Walla Walla Sweets started Periscope broadcasts for home and away games in 2014. In 2016, the Victoria HarbourCats launched a multi-camera broadcast. Earlier this year, the WCL board of directors approved an initiative to help each ballclub capitalize a video-streaming service in each park. The league anticipates that all clubs will have a live-video solution available for all games.
