Canadian Woes Continue for Pippins With 11-4 Defeat

VICTORIA, British Columbia — Safe to say, the Yakima Valley Pippins can’t wait to come back stateside.

On Saturday, the Pippins dropped their second straight in Victoria, 11-4, and have lost four of five games north of the border to fall to 5-9 on the season.

Russell Young’s third-inning grand slam put the HarbourCats firmly in control, and the Pippins never got closer than four runs the rest of the way.

Five Victoria players had at least two hits in the 15-hit barrage.

Jace Phelan led the Pippins with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate, including a line-drive home run in the sixth inning. Mike Woodward added a moonshot homer to left in the seventh.

Gabe Villaflor also collected multiple hits for the Pippins, finishing 2-for-5.

The Pippins struggled on the mound, with starter Derek McNary giving up six earned runs and six hits in three innings to take the loss. Joey Harmon also pitched three innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits.

The road trip concludes today with a 1:05 p.m. game against the HarbourCats.
