Two Returning Pippins Ready for 2024

Infielder Blaszak, pitcher Salscheider coming back to Yakima

YAKIMA, Washington — Infielder Zach Blaszak and left-handed pitcher Ethan Salscheider will return to Yakima County Stadium for the Pippins this summer.

Blaszak plays mainly shortstop in the infield for Montana State University-Billings. The junior from Park City, Utah, was encouraged about returning to the Pippins roster this coming summer.

“I really wasn’t planning on coming back to play summer ball again, but I had a phenomenal time with Yakima,” Blaszak said.

“I like the coaches. I like the program they’re running. I think we can be a better club and win next year,” added the infielder who hit nine home runs last year in college and summer ball combined.

Blaszak was third on the team last season with 30 runs scored. He was one of four infielders who led the Pippins in runs last season, trailing only five runs behind Tommy Eisenstat.

Salscheider, a junior pitcher from Tacoma, Washington, also returns. He is looking forward to improving his stats, while also building on the Pippins’ team chemistry. He said his prior experience with Yakima Valley was full of fun as the loyal Pippins fan base filled up The Orchard.

“Everyone looks up to the Pippins in Yakima. It’s a big baseball town,” said the pitcher who will spend his junior college season with the Hawaii Hilo Vulcans of the Pacific West Conference in Division II.

Salscheider finished last season with 31 strikeouts. His impact on the mound placed him second on the team in that category, trailing Payton Graham, who fanned 37.

The Pippins are continuing to sign players for the upcoming summer season after going 20-34 last year. With the return of experienced players such as Blaszak and Salscheider, the Pippins are bringing back important pieces to a roster and are looking to improve from their position at the end of last season and get to the top of the South Division in the West Coast League this summer.

The Pippins open their 10th season at The Orchard on May 31 against the Springfield Drifters. Season tickets and mini ticket plans are currently on sale at PippinsBaseball.com. Single-game tickets will go on sale in April.
