Springfield Edges Pippins 4-3 in Extra Innings

Jason Shedlock’s two-out single plated the go-ahead run in the 10th inning, and the Springfield Drifters went on for a 4-3 win over the Yakima Valley Pippins on Saturday at Yakima County Stadium.

Tyler Frieders, usually a starter who came in in relief Saturday, got two quick outs in the 10th before walking Drew Johnson. A single to Gage Bruce preceded Shedlock’s single. The Drifters loaded the bases before Frieders got a fly out to end the frame.

The Pippins went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning to give Eli Holbert the win in relief with three innings of work.

Springfield tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh off Frieders with a two-out single to Charlie Updegrave.

Tommy Eisenstat and Jace Phelan each had RBI singles in the fifth when the Pippins took a 3-1 lead.

Eisenstat, Phelan and Beck Maguire each finished 2-for-4 for the Pippins. Maxim Fullerton plated the Pippins’ run in the second with a double.

Bobby Blandfold went 4-for-5 with a run scored for Springfield, and Bruce, Updegrave and former Yakima Valley College catcher Ryne Hays each had two hits for the Drifters.

The Pippins go for the series win at 6:05 p.m. Sunday against the Drifters.
