Ridgefield Completes Sweep of Pippins at The Orchard

It was nothing short of heartbreak for the Yakima Valley Pippins as the West Coast League South Division-leading Ridgefield Raptors completed their three-game sweep with a 4-1 win on Thursday at Yakima County Stadium.
The Pippins had a chance to walk away with a victory in each game, being tied or within a run heading into the eighth inning of all three contests.
The Raptors took control of the game with three runs in the eighth that broke a 1-1 tie. A walk and a hit batter set the stage for Jackson Nicklaus’ RBI single, and Andy Allanson followed with another RBI single. The final run scored on a sacrifice fly by Reiss Calvin.
Yakima Valley starter Dylan Bishop struck out two and surrendered five hits through 3.2 innings before leaving the game with a knee injury.
The Pippins’ offense struggled again, scoring fewer than three runs for the seventh time this season.
The Pippins travel to Walla Walla on Friday for a three-game set against their sibling team, the Walla Walla Sweets, in the first round of the Battle of the Basin series. Game time Friday is 6:35 p.m.
