Raptors Eke Out 5-4 Late Win Over Pippins

Jacob Sharp’s two-out single scored pinch-runner Royce Clayton with two outs in the ninth, and the Ridgefield Raptors held on for a 5-4 win over the Yakima Valley Pippins at Yakima County Stadium on Wednesday night.

The victory gave Ridgefield the series win over YV. The third game of the set begins at 6:35 p.m. Thursday.

The Pippins tried to rally in the bottom of the inning when Beck Maguire drew a one-out walk. But two fly outs to left ended the game.

Yakima Valley knotted the game at 4-4 in the eighth when Jace Phelan blasted a 392-foot double to deep center, which scored Zack Blaszak with one out. After a single by Gabe Villaflor advanced Phelan to third, pinch-runner Hank Dunn was forced out at second on a blooper to right that landed between the second baseman and right fielder, and Phelan was unable to score on the play. A fly ball to right ended the rally.

Tommy Eisenstat was 2-for-4 for the Pippins, including a two-run single in the sixth.

Starter Ethan Salscheider struck out three and walked three in 5.2 innings for the Pippins, surrendering four hits and the Raptors’ first four runs. However, only one was earned.
