YAKIMA, Wash.- A wild game 2 of the series between Kamloops and the Pippins saw a fiery ejection, 19 stranded North Paws baserunners, and a walkoff win for Yakima Valley.

The North Paws had every opportunity to even up the series in Game 2, but Yakima Valley hung around and pulled it out with a 7-6 victory.

Kamloops left the bases loaded 5 total times and Pippins pitching worked out of countless jams.

It started with Daniel Charron on the mound, making his first appearance with the Pippins in 21 days.

The righty out of Spokane Falls CC got off to a rocky start when a solo home run, a walk, and an error made it 2-0 in the top of the first.

He bounced back in spectacular fashion. When 3 errors by Pippins infielders loaded the bases with no one out in the 2nd, Charron used a pair of strikeouts and a fly out to tightrope out unscathed.

Charron retired the side in order in the 3rd and the Pippins fought back.

4 walks chased the starter and the 7-8-9 in the order would each pick up an RBI, resulting in the Pippins taking a 4-2 lead.

Charron would again get out of a bases loaded jam with a line-out double play in the 4th and the 5th would start with a 4-2 Pippin lead.

A pair of walks opened the next frame and Charron’s day would finish with the North Paws tying it up.

Peysen Sweeney recorded the final 2-outs of the 5th and Yakima Valley retook the lead 5-4 with an RBI single from Spencer Marenco.

That lead would last for 1 batter when Felix Chenier-Rondeau launched his 2nd home run of the game to lead off the 6th. Peysen Sweeney gave up a pair of hits and a walk to follow and it looked like the North Paws were going to blow it open.

Again Kamloops would come up empty when Sweeney used 2 strike outs and a fielder’s choice to keep the game tied.

A quiet 7th would then be followed with a highly controversial 8th. A 2-out RBI single from Ty Sifferman made it 6-5 North Paws, but the Pippins had a runner reach third in the bottom half with 1 out.

An infield popup was out number 2 and it was up to Luke Rohleder to tie the game. A routine ground-ball looked to end the inning, but it was dropped by the first baseman.

After it was initially called an out, the umpires conversed and changed the call which allowed the tying run to score. Kamloops head coach Cole Armstrong was furious and had to be restrained by his coaching staff after his long argument got him ejected.

In the 9th, Michael Rice escaped another bases loaded jam with a big groundout, and the score was tied at 6 heading to the bottom of the ninth.

Yakima native Henry Gargus led off the inning with a 107 mph double into the gap and pinch runner Owen McWilliam became the winning run.

A fly-out moved him to third and Sam Olsson would get the chance to be the hero.

Of the 2 walkoff wins for the Pippins this year, both have been off of the bat of Olsson, and he would capitalize once again.

A scorched single through the left side scored McWilliam, won the series, and extended the win streak to 4.

Yakima Valley moves to 5-3 in the second half and look to sweep the series in the finale on Wednesday. First pitch is at 6:35 on youtube.com/c/pippinsbaseball.
