Pippins Snap Losing Streak, Top Springfield 10-6

SPRINGFIELD, Oregon — Yakima Valley’s offense ramped up early and didn’t stop on Saturday, en route to a 10-6 win over Springfield that snapped a five-game losing streak.

Tommy Eisenstat paced the Pippins’ 16-hit attack with a 4-for-6, three-RBI effort, including a three-run double in the sixth that snapped a 4-4 tie and put his team ahead for good.

The same two teams wrap up their 2023 West Coast League seasons with a 1:05 p.m. start on Sunday.

Spencer Shipman, Jace Phelan, Blake Balsz and Chris Clement each added two hits in the winning effort. Shipman, who earlier Saturday announced his intention to attend Whitworth College this fall, led off the fifth with his second home run of the year. He also doubled.

Pippins starter Tyler Frieders battled all night long, tossing seven solid innings while striking out five and walking four. Only two of the six runs he surrendered were earned as the Pippins defense had five errors.

CJ Colyer closed out the game, allowing just one baserunner over the final two innings. He struck out four of the seven batters he faced.
