PIPPINS SNAP LOSING STREAK WITH WIN OVER KELOWNA: The Pippins returned home on Monday and opened up their 7-game homestand with a 6-4 win over the Kelowna Falcons, snapping out of a season-long four game losing streak. Kelowna took an early 2-0 lead with runs in the second and third innings off of Pippins right-hander Mark Woinarowicz, but the Pippins quickly responded with a 5-run fourth inning, capped off by a three-run homer from Tanner Parker, the first homer hit by a Pippins player at the Orchard in 2019. Woinarowicz finished with a quality start, allowing 1 earned run in 7 innings, and Nick Brown closed things out for the Pippins by allowing one run over two innings to earn the save.

FOR THE PIPPINS: Right-hander Joe Magrisi is set to make his third start of the summer tonight against Kelowna. Magrisi, a rising sophomore at Cal State Fullerton, made his last start on Wednesday against Victoria, striking out 6 over 4 innings, while allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks. On the season, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound right-hander is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA and a league-leading 16 strikeouts in 10 innings of work. He was named the WCL’s Pitcher of the Week after the first week of the season, when he allowed 1 hit over 6 innings in two appearances, striking out 10.

PARKER PACES THE OFFENSE: Tanner Parker, the Pippins’ everyday second baseman, continued his early season hot stretch on Monday with a 2-for-5 performance. Hitting leadoff for the first time in his Pippins career, Parker extended his streak of multi-hit games to six, while also hitting his first homer of the season, a go-ahead, 3-run blast in the fourth inning. After collecting just 2 hits in his first five games, Parker is hitting .518 (14-for-27) over his current 7-game hitting streak. His .385 batting average is good for 9th in the West Coast League.

HOME RUNS BACK ON THE MENU: Tanner Parker’s 3-run, go-ahead homer in the 4th inning on Monday not only gave the Pippins the lead and was the first homer of the year by a Pippin at the Orchard, but it broke an 11-day long long stretch since the last homer by a Pippin at any venue. Since Owen Cobb’s solo shot in the 8th inning at Ridgefield on June 6, the Pippins did not a homer in the following 8 games before Parker broke that stretch with his shot. The Pippins’ three homers on the season are the 4th-fewest in the WCL.

WOINAROWICZ JUST WINS: Mark Woinarowicz picked up his third win of the summer in his first start of the year on Monday against Kelowna, improving his record on the season to 3-1. With the win, he becomes the first pitcher in the West Coast League this summer to record three victories, and takes sole possession of first place in the league in victories. Woinarowicz has earned the decision in all 4 of his appearances so far this season. Among pitchers in the WCL with at least 4 appearances, he is the only one who has earned the decision in each of his outings this year.
