Offensive Explosion for Corvallis Knots Series at 1-1

After the Pippins rallied for a walk-off victory Tuesday, Corvallis responded Wednesday with an 11-run outburst on 18 hits to win Game 2 11-4 at Yakima County Stadium.

The Knights plated its runs in the first seven innings, including four in the second.

Seven of the nine Corvallis starters had more than one hit in the contest.

Incoming freshman catcher Gil Melchione was a bright spot for the Pippins. He had three of the team’s four RBIs, including a two-run ground-rule double in the sixth. Kyle Williamson finished 2-for-4 for Yakima Valley, but was the only Pippin with multiple hits.

Evan Hamberger pitched a solid two innings in relief for the Pippins, allowing only one hit while striking out two and walking a pair.

The rubber match of the series begins at 6:35 p.m. Thursday on Perry Technical Institute Trades Night, with a souvenir giveaway for the first 500 fans, as the Pippins’ seven-game home-opening series continues. It’s also Thirsty Thursday.
