YAKIMA, Wash.- The Pippins picked up their 3rd straight win Monday night in shutout fashion.

Tyler Frieders added his 4th win of the year with 8 scoreless innings against the Kamloops NorthPaws, which extends his scoreless streak to 17 innings.

It’s the second straight time that Frieders has gone 8 scoreless against Kamloops after shutting them down in the 12-4 win a week ago.

The bats got it done as well, tallying 14 total hits and doing just enough to take the first game of the series 3-0.

After Frieders left the bases loaded in the 2nd, Shayne Simpson broke the scoreless tie in the 3rd on an RBI single into left.

The 10th RBI of the year for Simpson was followed by another opportunity in the 5th, where he would drive in the game’s second run on an RBI double play.

The offense had a number of scoring chances throughout the game but failed to capitalize several times. Yakima Valley finished with 2 hits in 13 at-bats with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base.

Frieders backed up the bats however, retiring the side in order 4 times throughout the game.

Spencer Shipman added to the Pippins lead in the 7th with an RBI triple which picked up his team-leading 19th RBI and 10th extra-base hit.

It looked as-if the scoreless streak would end for Frieders in the 8th with runners on first and second, only 1 out, and the heart of the order due up.

A lineout to right helped Frieders dodge the first bullet, but it brought up the league leader in home runs Zack Beatty.

On the first pitch of the at-bat to the DH, he blasted one to left which Owen McWilliam ran down just shy of the wall to end the top of the 8th.

Michael Rice came out for the 9th and earned his 1st save of the year with a 1-2-3 inning to win it.

“I think I’ve started to get more comfortable getting a few more innings under my belt,” said Frieders. “We’re just playing as hard as we can right now and trying to get the second half out to as good a start as we can.”

The Pippins are now 4-3 in the second half, and have a chance to win their 4th series in their last 5 in Tuesday’s 6:35 matchup with the NorthPaws.
