Bend Scores Early, Holds off Pippins to Take Series

BEND, Oregon — A ninth-inning Pippins rally was too little, too late as the Bend Elks beat Yakima Valley 6-3 on Thursday at Vince Genna Stadium.
The win allowed the Elks to capture two victories in the three-game set. The Pippins return home on Friday, opening a three-game series against the Victoria HarbourCats.
Trailing 6-3, the Pippins scored three times in the ninth with the help of three walks and a hit batsman. Zack Blaszack brought in the first run with a bases-loaded walk, and Chris Clement plated two more with a single. Another walk reloaded the bases, but a 6-4-3 double play ended the threat and the game.
The Pippins managed just two hits through the first eight innings.
Bend scored a run in the first and added three more in the second to take firm control. Justin Tsukada, Kody Watanabe and Maddox Malony each had two hits for the Elks.
Wyatt Adams took the loss for Yakima Valley, walking six and allowing four earned runs in two innings of work.
