YAKIMA, Wash. -- There's nothing like a no-hitter.
UCLA commit Chase Farrell, who will pitch for the Pippins this summer, tossed a no-hitter and struck out six in seven innings last week as Valencia High School beat Canyon High 10-0.
"I just did what I had to do. Throw strikes," Farrell told The Signal newspaper in the Santa Clarita Valley in California.
So far this spring, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-hander is 2-1 with a 2.13 ERA. In 23 innings, Farrell has struck out 25 and walked four.
Washington State's Cougars won three of four games over Cal State Northridge in Pullman this past weekend, improving WSU's record to 14-8 -- and several past and future Pippins took part in the series.
James Rudkin went 4-for-13 with five RBI and a double in the four games for WSU, and teammate Dillon Plew, who will join Rudkin in Yakima this summer, was 3-for-9 with two RBI and two doubles in three games.
Former Pippin Fred Smith went 3-for-18 for Northridge in the series, and former Pippins Matt Campbell and Drake Atlee also pitched for CSUN (12-13) over the weekend.
