YAKIMA, Wash. -- You don't have to look too deep into the statistics to discover the awesomeness that is Eli Morgan (2014 Pippins). With a 2-1 record and a 2.57 ERA so far this year, he's getting a lot of attention for last week's 15-strikeout, complete-game victory over Cal State Fullerton last Friday.
That 1-0 win at Fullerton earned the Gonzaga junior National Pitcher of the Week honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Tuesday. Collegiate Baseball named Morgan one of its National Players of the Week earlier this week, and USA Baseball picked him as one of four finalists for the Golden Spikes Gold Standard Performance of the Week. He also received the Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week award.
Morgan has been named West Coast Conferrence Pitcher of the Week in consecutive weeks. The shutout last week -- in which he only allowed two hits -- was his first this season and the fourth of his Gonzaga career.
Tyler Mildenberg (2014) is hitting a team-leading .457 (29 for 70) with 22 RBI in 21 games at Dixie State so far this year. In his four starts against Concordia-Irvine last week, he was 6-for-16 (.375) with four RBI, six runs scored, a double and a home run. Dixie State is 17-5 this year.
Mitchell Morimoto (2016) is batting .448 (26 for 58) in 15 starts for the 13-2 Arizona Wildcats. He's racked up 10 RBI and 21 runs scored, with three doubles, a triple and a home run.
